Quincy Speaks on Mother’s Day Kiss

This is so silly, but I’m going to post it anyway. Apparently, it’s inappropriate for a son to kiss his mother on the lips. Quincy Brown (son of Kimberly Porter, who’s the mother of Puffy’s twins) and his mother shared a quick “peck” (I don’t like that word) in public. I saw the pic the other day on Sandrarose, but didn’t think much of it. Well, apparently everyone that it was odd, weird and inappropriate. I don’t know if it was because it was on the lips or what, but the public “no likey.” Here’s what Quincy says via his blog on Global Grind:

There were a lot of mixed opinions and judgements that surfaced the internet today concerning the kiss i gave my mother on Mother’s Day. I think it deserves a personal response from me……

Yesterday was Mother’s Day; A special day to celebrate and give thanks to all mothers and mother figures present in our lives. I chose to express my love and devotion to my Mother, not only by presenting her with gifts and verbal means of appreciation, but by sharing my LOVE for her with the WORLD; A KISS!

I come from a warm, loving and close family. It really is a secure feeling to be apart of a caring family, and my Mother is so much apart of the warmth and love that helps us appreciate and enjoy one another. All through the years, I’ve kissed my Mom, my Grandmother, and my Great-Grandmothers………With more kisses to come.

-Quincy

(((I don’t kiss my parents on the lips. I kiss my man on the lips. Thee end. And I don’t like all that PDA. I don’t drink after people–my mother included–love her, but no thanks, I’ll order my own Martini–It makes me uncomfortable, but that’s my issue.)))

Lisa Raye Still Beefing w/ Rocsi?

I’m a fan of both Lisa Raye and Rocsi. For those of you who give a damn, the drama still ensues w/ these two. Quick backstory–Lisa Raye was married to Turks and Caicos premier Michael Misick. Allegedly (please note the word allegedly), Rocsi of 106th & Park and the premier had some sort of inappropriate friendship/relationship. Lisa Raye has been very vocal about this information and has had a lot to say in regards of this “situation.” If you peep the video here, you’ll see her say, ““I Would Whoop Her Like My Daughter”. Yikes!

Freedy-O has the full story here. (((I don’t want to add anything to this besides the fact that there are always two sides of the story. We’ve only heard Lisa Raye’s side. Hell, maybe there isn’t another side. Deal w/ a married man, be prepared for the heat? This would be much more interesting if Rocsi would respond, but I’m sure that’s why she’s not.)))

Deputies Ordered to Arrest Dwyane Wade’s Wife

Update!!!! Mrs. Wade has turned herself in and posted the $10,000 bond. No comments have yet been released from her camp. Here for full story.

According to ESPN, Sherriff’s recently ordered deputies to arrest Dwayne Wade’s wife, Siohvaughn Wade, for failure to show up for a Monday divorce hearing.

The judge said Siohvaughn Wade had refused to comply with other orders. For example, Nega said, Siohvaughn Wade has not followed an order to make sure the couple’s two children talk to their father every day. Nega also noted the children were not at their Chicago school last week to be picked up by Dwyane Wade’s sister as the judge had ordered.

Last week, Siohvaughn Wade filed a lawsuit in Chicago contending Wade’s relationship with actress Gabrielle Union was causing the couple’s sons emotional distress, alleging, for example, that Wade and Union “engaged in sexual foreplay” in front of the boys.

Dwyane Wade has called the lawsuit “baseless and meritless.” After Monday’s hearing, his attorney, James Pritikin, said he wants the judge to order a psychiatric evaluation for Siohvaughn Wade. Here for full story.

(((Yikes. This is getting uglier and uglier…)))

Nas on Fatherhood Challenges & Removing Kelis Tatt

Vibe recently sat down w/ Nas and rapped about his new album, son & his Kelis tatto. Peep a few snippets:

How’d it feel to be awaiting you first son while recording Distant Relatives?
Nas: It’s amazing. It just made everything feel like it was right on time, you know? To have a daughter is amazing too, but when you’re a man, to have a son is different. My daughter is my princess and now I have a prince, so it’s a beautiful thing to have a son and a daughter. Now I have a little man. It’s the coolest shit ever.

How old is Knight? Is he walking yet?
Nas: He’s like nine months. He’s crawling, pulling himself to stand up. He said the word ‘stick’ about a month ago. He’s been talking for about two months, saying little words here and there.

Any of them rhyme?
Nas: Nah. [Laughs]

What was his first word?
Nas: I don’t know, it sounded like he was trying to say ‘hello.’ He was picking up on things very young, like two to three months if not sooner. It just throws you that we’re born knowing what’s up.

How often are you able to see him?
Nas: My son was born with ice grills, so when his mom feels in the mood she sends pictures. If not, its hell. It’s hell trying to figure that out, trying to get him—I’ll just leave it at that. It’s hell. A man shouldn’t go through that shit, but it’s another story I’ma tell at a different time.

That’s what’s up. So I remember seeing a rumor online that said you were getting your Kelis tattoo removed from of your forearm. Any truth to that?
Nas: No words about any tattoos came from me this year or last year. So I don’t know what that is.

Do you feel a certain way about having the tattoo now after everything that’s been going on?
Nas: [Laughs] I don’t really think about tattoos, I just think about adding more, you know what I’m saying?

Do you think you’d ever get another tattoo like that?
Nas: No comment.

Looking forward, the new kids on the block are Drake and J. Cole. Drake made the comparison of himself as Jay-Z and J. Cole as Nas. Do you see the same parallel?
Nas: I think its great that those brothers aim for that, if that’s what they’re aiming for. They’re great. Jay Electronica’s a monster, [too]. They’re gonna open doors for more real niggas to get in the game. I love that shit. It’s too early for me to know, [though]. Those dudes are so creative, who knows what they’re about to do. I’m just gonna sit back and enjoy the show.

Tameka Raymond Blogs on Motherhood

Tameka Raymond pens a blog to God on motherhood (over at Global Grind).

Dear God,

Thank you for each of my sons. I love them so much. I am absolutely enamored merely by their existence and I cannot imagine living my life without them. I realize that I was only the tender age of 19 when I decided to have my first child. It was a sensibly tough yet wise and necessary decision. Everyone told me I was not ready to be a mother, but I entered into this journey of Motherhood anyway. Armed with a brave heart, naiveté, an iron-will, and youth. I proceeded with the motherhood experience, it is what I have always liken or perceived a gang initiation to be- It was me being thrust blindly into a scary, multi faceted, fast paced, learning abyss. Nobody told me what to expect nor could they prepare me for life as a new Mom. None of my girlfriends, younger sisters, or cousins were parents at the time.

Luckily God, I had You to lean on, because after my son Darrin’s birth, I slipped into nearly a week long bout of the ‘New Mommy Blues’ (aka postpartum depression). I walked around both dizzy and aimless for that entire first week because I was so exhausted from being startled and awakened by the abrupt, siren-like cries of my newborn blasting my eardrums. I was totally unprepared. I was scared but I could only share my fears with You because I had to appear to be ready with Mom and Grandmom watching. You knew I was weak.bThrough my weakness, I gained strength… Being a new mom for me meant patience, a lesson in self-reliance, unwavering loyalty and unconditional love.

Kandi Burruss On…Love In Your 30’s & Celibacy

Kandi opens up via Vibe and blogs about love, relationships and a how sex makes things tricky. Peep excerpts below:

Everybody in the world is in [Halle Berry’s] business. Everybody is like: She’s dated a lot of men. But most of us have had a lot of relationships. We’re just not as big of a celebrity as she is so people [aren’t] as much into our everyday business. She never said dude was gonna be her husband so I don’t see what the big deal in that was.

The older you get the harder you get with your feelings and being able to be won over. When you’re younger, like 20, 21, it’s all about: Ooh I love him and he doesn’t even have to be rich. He doesn’t have to be this. He doesn’t have to be that. He just has to be somebody that makes you smile.

As you get in your ’30s, all of a sudden you’ve been through so many types of situations and it’s like: He gotta have this amount of money. He gotta be this. He gotta be that. I’m not putting up with this. I’m not putting up with that. You get so many rules and regulations that you didn’t have in your early ’20s. So by the time you decide you finally looking for that one, it’s like every guy that comes along, they’re not good enough anymore.

I feel like as women we’ll be so quick to like the first time a guy comes around. We don’t really date. I know I have not been good at just dating people. So now that I’m older my mom was like, “Just date and don’t get too serious about one person.” But what I realized is when you meet a man and he sees that quality in you that you’re marriage material, he’s putting the pressure to be all about him even though he may be still keeping his options open.

We shouldn’t be so in a rush to lay up and have sex with a guy because all of a sudden we catch those feelings. We are closing off options. I’m on a bet right now where I can’t have sex with nobody until after this year is over [Laughs]. So I’m not locking nobody down because I’m not letting any relationship get sexual. It’s easier to date, but when you start having sex with the person, then that makes you want to keep giving it to him. My mom always tells me, a man can have 200 women and be cool. But two men would drive a woman crazy and that’s because we be trying to give all our attention.

My friends say I have “man emotion.” I act like a dude in the sense of I can get over people easily as far as relationships. It doesn’t take me long to move on. When I decide that you ain’t doing right and you did something wrong to me, then I’m done. And I’m done. As soon as we break up, I have a date set up for the next week. I’m not letting nobody keep taking me through the ringer over and over. —As Told To Starrene Rhett (Here for full story)

(((Well effing said.  May I say that the world may be a better place if we closed our legs? Am I not allowed to say that and mean it? I would say more, but some of you aren’t as non-judgemental as I am….Cue the music!!! ;-)))

Drake on the Hate & Being Un-Photogenic

XXL recently published some unreleased excerpts from their upcoming interview w/ Drake. The full piece hits stands this month. Here are a few snippets:

XXL: How many songs are on Thank Me Later?

Drake: It’ll probably end up being about 15. But it’s just, you know, I love doing R&B music, I really do. And I just always feel like to tie in hip-hop with R&B and to utilize R&B to glue it all together, that’s my trademark. That’s something that only I can do. And that’s why I will continue to do it. There might come a time where I might be like, “Yo, I just want to do an R&B mixtape, or I just want to do a whole [R&B] album,” but I don’t think so, man. I think that that is the makeup of me—melody and just the tone of my voice and all; I don’t think I could ever change that, so…

XXL: I’m waiting on the Drake Gangsta Grillz.

Drake: [Laughs] I just find that boring, you know. There’s certain people where it’s impressive, like with Lil Wayne, to hear him freestyling over other people’s beats for an hour is impressive because it’s just like, Yo, this guy never runs out of clever shit to say, but for me, people might want to hear it, but it’s just not something that I really want to give you. I’d rather just give you something that lasts a little longer than that ’cause those mixtapes never really last much longer than six months. When the songs become played out, and…

XXL: Well, it’s different now. It’s like Dedication 2 and Dedication 1 and Jeezy obviously, Trap or Die…

Drake: Yeah, but even so, do you listen to those on a constant basis or would you rather put in an album where somebody’s giving you original compositions and moments that maybe apply to your life as opposed to listening to like… I don’t know? I know to listen to freestyles over songs that maybe I’m just sick of, even though somebody kills it, there may be one or two or three that really, really, I love, but other than that, I’d rather just listen to like somebody’s music.

XXL: How do you respond to the hate?

Drake: I don’t respond. I cut myself off from outlets where I would be able to say anything anyway, but it’s really not my style to really say anything to people, you know. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, man, honestly, the music feedback I don’t really trip off of ’cause I know everybody likes their own thing so I don’t really trip when someone doesn’t like my music because what you’ll tend to do is there’ll be 40 people that say, “Oh, dope song,” and then there’ll be one guy that’s like, “Yo, this dude’s overrated, fuck Drake,” and that’s the one you’ll pay attention to. That one guy will make you feel like everybody’s online dissing you so it’s easy to get caught up in the trap of the feedback. But to be honest that’s not even the stuff that bothers me, man. You want to know what really bothers me?

XXL: What?

Drake: What really bothers me is that fact that all my life, I always get caught in the worst, most unphotogenic poses ever. Now people follow me with cameras and are just clicking away and I always feel like I just look mad different in pictures. I hate seeing pictures of myself online when I’m leaving a spot or whatever; I just always get caught laughing ’cause I’m always outside making jokes or whatever with the people, but I always end up looking so stupid like that’s the shit that I’m always like, “Man, I wish that didn’t happen,” you know? But as for people’s opinions and shit like that, it’s all good. That’s what’s going to happen. You know people are entitled to their opinion and it takes a certain type of individual to really come online and give their opinion of your music, positive or negative. I don’t know if you do it, but I can’t say I’ve ever gone online and posted underneath someone’s song, and be like, “Dope song, son.” Or, “That shit is wack.” I’ve never done that before. It’s just a certain community of people that really feel like that’s their outlet and I know that me and my friends aren’t any of them so I don’t know who those people are and I can’t really take their opinion too close to heart just because I’m not really sure what those people are made of and if their opinion’s even valid so I just kind of keep it moving.

XXL: If it all ended today, if it got taken away, what would you want people to take away?

Drake: It can’t end yet. It can’t end yet because the story’s not done. —Benjamin Meadows-Ingram

Remembering Lena Horne

Legendary Jazz singer, performer and social activist, Lena Horne, 92, died Sunday at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. She was the first black woman to sign a meaningful long-term contract with a major studio, a contract that said she would never have to play a maid. In Hollywood, she received previously unheard-of star treatment for a black actor. Metro Goldwyn Mayer studios featured Ms. Horne in movies and advertisements as glamorously as white beauties including Hedy Lamarr, Rita Hayworth and Betty Grable.

Quotes from Lena Horne:

  • It’s so nice to get flowers while you can still smell the fragrance.
    Lena Horne
  • My identity is very clear to me now, I am a black woman.
    Lena Horne
  • You have to be taught to be second class; you’re not born that way.
    Lena Horne
  • Always be smarter than the people who hire you.
    Lena Horne
  • As much as I try, when I open my mouth, Lena comes out, And I get so mad.
    Lena Horne
  • Don’t be afraid to feel as angry or as loving as you can, because when you feel nothing, it’s just death.
    Lena Horne
